Excellent Machine!
A well engineered netbook, which is lightweight, easily transported and reliable. I have bought 4 of these netbooks, the oldest being 4 years old and in daily use still and the other machines in use by my adult children. The only problems with it are the way in which you are instructed to set it up. I ignore much of that to get an efficiently running machine. I start the initial installation of the operating system, and once that is loaded and updated, strip out all the unessential software bunded with the unit. I get rid of al the trial software. Microsoft office goes and is replaced with Star Office or Open Office freeware. All Adobe software except Flash Player goes and is replaced with Foxit PDF freeware. The bundled Antivirus is taken off and replaced with AVG free edition and ZoneAlarm firewall, free edition. I install Firefox or Google Chrome browser instead of Internet Explorer. For media playing, I get rid off Windows Media Player and Real Player (if installed) and load VLC Media player and Real Player Alternative. For Photo use I add Irfanview and it's plugins. I also strip out all Windows Live elements unless someone needs them. This in effect replaces all the memory hungry programs with much more efficient software. The hard drive is then repartitioned to make a "C" Operating sytem drive and a D or E data drive. Top partition the Hard drive effectively you need to switch off System Restore first, and then compress all the data on the C drive using "MyDefrag" freeware, and then partition the drive into a 25 GB C drive and a 190 GB Data drive. Once thatr is done the folder locations for My Documents, Pictures, Music and Videos can all be moved to the data drive. This leaves a far more efficient machine, with the data securely seperated from the Operating system drive, which is the one more likely to fail. This may seem a lot of work, but it is worth it in the long term by way of efficiency and software performance. Restore can be switched back on afterwards and the machine set for optimum performance in control panel. The drives will also need to be defragmented too. The whole process takes about 10 hours, but this configuration allows the software performance to be maximised to the hardware available. So far I have not had to reinstall any of the netbooks I've setup in this way. Hope this is of use to someone!
