Acer Liquid is 100% Fantastic

Recently purchased from Expansys (great customer service by the way) and wasted no time in upgrading to Android 2.1 from the website. It was a doddle to install. This handset with 2.1 installed is now exactly the same as the Acer Liquid E but over £100 cheaper. I've used many Android handsets such as HTC Hero, Desire, Motorlola flip out, milestone, Samsung Galaxy. Without a shadow of this Acer Liquid wins hands down. I cannot find a single thing to fault. After having a HTC Hero on contract with running the network provided 2.1 update I thought this was the norm and couldn't see what the all the Android 2.1 fuss was about. Now I know after having this Acer Liquid sim free the fuss was about. The network do not release the full update, they tweak it and leve out many features. With the full 2.1 OS on the Liquid it's like a completely new phone. There are even some rumours that Android 2.2 will be released (these are from the same people who were right about the Acer Liquid 2.1 update) for the Acer Liquid

New Owner Notes

This phone can be immediately upgraded to Eclair, but the pathway isn't quite as straightforward as one might wish! it IS official, and it DOES work perfectly well, but you need to download from the acer france website (the OS is in English though!) as the ROM that this handset comes with is not GEN1 (Europe) but CUS1 (american). The other one is AAP (Asia Pacific and arabic). Anyway, the french Acer site has the correct ROM, and then follow the normal instructions as per the user guide that downloads and it works. 1.6 was pleasant enough, 2.1 adds multi-touch, alters the layout, adds two extra home screens, and a few other under the hood tweaks. Fingers crossed that 2.2 is released officially, as if it is, the handset, and Acer themselves, will cement a place in Android world as a manufacturer willing to support their customers and their products. Take note Samsung and HTC! yes, it's plastic, and compromises are made to hit the price point, but for comparable money (motorola flipout or htc wildfire) larger compromises are made in terms of screen!
