ASUS RT-N56u Dual-Band Gigabit WiFi N Broadband Router Features
The revolutionary new ASUS RT-N56U is the most advanced wireless router available, challenging tradition by dramatically exceeding all expectations. This stylish network enabler combines a series of cutting-edge and powerful technologies to offer you an ideal internet and wireless package, complete with striking design.
Dual-band for Lag-free Entertainment
Double your wireless performance and bandwidth with simultaneous 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands speed up to 300Mbps concurrently. While basic internet applications like browsing or file downloading can occur in 2.4GHz, wireless HD content streaming takes place in the 5GHz band at the same time, so both achieve optimized speeds and you enjoy smooth, buffer-free HD content streaming.
Gigabit Internet Surfing with Hardware NAT
Equipped with a capable hardware NAT acceleration engine and built-in Gigabit Ethernet, it gives you full Gigabit internet performance, making its WAN to LAN throughput up to 2-5 times that of traditional software-based NAT Gigabit routers.
Powerful Online Multitasking at up to 300,000 Data Sessions
Support for a massive data pipeline of up to 300,000 data sessions means the RT-N56U has around 20 times the networking capacity of other high session routers, so multiple data transfer jobs don't slow down even during heavy load.
Plug-n-surf and Hassle-free Management
ASUS EZ UI offers you an intuitive router setup without read manuals. What's more, you can enjoy simultaneous printing and scanning by connecting an All-in-one printer to the router via the USB port. Also connect external hard disks to enjoy instant file sharing with family and friends!
Ai Radar Optimized and Reliable Wireless Coverage
This unique and efficient design drastically increases wireless signal coverage and quality without increasing power consumption. It intelligently adapts beam patterns to local conditions to enable higher-gain directional signal emulation. Ai Radar shapes signals to offer the strongest possible output, transforming what may be a weak omnidirectional signal to a stronger unidirectional one, improving throughput at same time.

Router Review
I have to say I was sceptical about a new router and shopped about quite a bit before deciding to go for the ASUS. I had read lots of reviews on Amazon and also a good article in the PC Pro magazine. Eventually having found it at the right price in EXPANSYS (£89.99) I took the plunge. The router itself looks excellent and was being used to replace a DLINK DIR-615 that was supplied by Virgin Media as their router of choice for the 50MB service. I have found the DLINK router disappointing, frequently requiring a reboot and speed and lag issues almost constantly. I installed the ASUS and the router picked up the Virgin Media settings immediately. The only change being the IP address range from 192.168.0.1 on the DLINK to 192.168.1.1 on the ASUS. I dutifully rebooted most devices in the house to ensure correct IP addresses and went immediately to Speedtest.net to check it out. As a bit of background I am using NETGEAR AV500 ethernet over power adaptors to distribute the broadband and Gigabit switches everywhere in the house. I don't see the point in having 50MB broadband if you can't distribute it and I have two grown up sons and myself who hammer the bandwidth with gaming (XBOX and PC) and downloads and a virtual daily basis. Even with new switches and the new Netgear adaptors, I was only acheiving 40MB/s with the DLINK router and the intermittent nature of the connection just was not satisfactory at all. The ASUS has completely changed this. I am acheiving 50MB/s consistently at my PC and the lag and dropping issues are non existent. The wireless signal strength has also increased dramatically throughout the house. Seriously happy!! The only slight glitch was when using the Vodafone Suresignal box which isn't compatible with the default settings however there is enough info on the web to get the correct settings for the router which allowed me to get the Suresignal up and running. Altogether very pleased with this route and a massive improvement on the DLINK. Would highly reccomend!!

Pretty good router...
Pretty good router. Loving the Galaxy S2 connecting to it via 5 Gig. Seems reasonably quick.

Unusable Firmware
I tried to use this with my Virgin Media cable broadband connection and found the WAN port drops every ten minutes. After installing the latest firmware I encountered even more problems. The firmware for this router is the most unstable I've used in my life, Asus support were less than helpful, until a stable release comes out or DD-WRT support, please be wary. Just check the Asus forums and see for yourself.
