Description
Take the spec sheet of almost any current smartphone, add in Google's Android OS then squish the whole package down into a handset that's smaller then a pack of cards. Who said smartphones had to be huge? You get the full set of Google services, everything from Gmail, through to Maps (with turn by turn navigation) and the ever popular Android Market lets you download more from a library of thousands.
Sony Ericsson have added some extra spice to Android in the form of MediaScape, which fixes Androids limited video and music capabilities. Listening to a song? Press the cool sounding "infinity" button and MediaScape find more information about the song or artist you're listening to, even find more songs or video's on YouTube. TimeScape is Sony Ericsson's nod to social networking sites. It takes all your messages (text, emails, Facebook, Twitter) and shows them as a continuous stream, so you can start a conversation on Twitter and finish by text.
For:
- Good 5MP camera, with geo tagging
- DVD quality video recording, impressive on a handset this small
- Clever use of screen corners to access options
Against:
- Screen is too small to text quickly
- Tiny size means its a little easy to loose
- Not the latest version of Android
what the press say:
“ CNET: If you're a geek with small pockets or a cheapskate looking for a powerful handset, it could fit the bill. It's also surprisingly easy to use, thanks to its well-designed user interface16 June 2010
”
“Know Your Mobile: dismiss it without giving it a go. We think you might be pleasantly surprised.09 June 2010
”
“Electric Pig: if you"re an internet grazer rather than internet user, who sends more texts than emails from their phone, the software"s finely tuned for you.16 June 2010
”
What we say:
“ Sony Ericsson would have been better calling this handset the X10 tiny, its hard to believe this is a touch screen phone, much less a full featured Android smartphone. It has almost all the same features of the bigger X10, despite being just bigger then a small box of matches. ”
