MicroSDHC or MicroSD ?

It may be that noone will know until it appears, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information around on whether this will support MicroSDHC cards (ie. with a capacity greater than 2Gb) or if, as with the i600 and i620, SDHC will be unsupported, and expansion will be limited to 2Gb.

Any speculation or information gratefully received, as other than this, the i780 looks like a nice Swiss Army smartphone. :)

I suspect it will support SDHC cards, but can not confirm as yet.

It definitely supports SDHC. I got an i780 from Orange a few days ago and I've got an 8gb sdhc in it which works fine.

Largest card?

Samsung's helpline told me that 4gb was the maximum. The instruction booklet tells me 16gb is the maximum. contrem in this thread has 8gb SDHC working OK. Hardware sites tell me to look for microSD or microSDHC logo on the packaging; neither appear on the box though the microSD logo appears on the phone's slot.

Just wanted to check:

The i780 will take all 38 (at 29/7/08) products expansys lists on its i780 -> Accessories -> Memory page? http://www.expansys.com/a.aspx?i=158053&atype=Memory#tab_content

Basically I want the largest memory expansion card that the i780 phone will take (and easily available). Mine was bought sim free, network free.

thanks

The microSHC memory card situation is confusing. In theory you should look for the microSDHC logo on devices to make sure they are compatible. However most handset manufactures in their own wisdom have decided to ignore this and lable the devices as microSD, whether they take microSDHC or not.

The Samsung i780 definitly works with 8GB memory cards, I've used them a couple of times in an i780. If the manual states 16GB then, it should take those fine (or anything upto that capacity). If it helps, we've started labeling on our pages the type of memory card devices take when we are certain that it is a microSDHC device. I've now also fixed the i780 page to show this also (its one I overlooked). As a rough rule of thumb most recent devices that support microSD also tend to support microSDHC.
