Hi Yoni,

Been trying to get this to work all day.  Sadly it does not.

I have the CnM Touchpad II 7" Tablet and have performed the Firmware upgrade that came on a mini CD in the box.

Whenever I load this app, it gets to the point where I have to accpet the Terms and Conditions - then the moment I accept, then I get the standard message:

  • Sorry!
  • The application Market (Process.com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly.  Please try again.

So I press:

  • Force Close

Then, when I open the application again, it goes to the main screen in the Market and works to a point, where I can:

  • look at apps
  • look at games

However, when I click on an app, I get the the standard message:

  • Sorry!
  • The application Market (Process.com.android.vending) has stoped unexpectedly.  Please try again.

So I press:

  • Force Close

This time is goes straight back to where I was before the forced close.

Similarly, when I search for an App:

It looks up what I want just fine

Then crashed whenever I try to click on the app I have searched for.

Lastly, I also get the standard message above and have to "Force Close" the app, whenever I select "My Apps" from the Home screen of the app.  Again, when the app comes up again, I am right back where I was, before the crash.

Can you help?

Sgt Wilko

Yoni solution of "Market for Android 2.1 and earlier - DOWNLOAD (MediaFire Pro) - MD5: c9252c09cf4e6c86bdfe0b0850c5aeb2" does download and if you re-start the tablet it does appear but then when you click on an app it "Force Closes".

From my experience 2.1 Eclair which this tablet uses is NOT compatible with the "Android Market Place" but some other apps stores do have apps that work.

Shame on CnM not building more compatibility because this tablet would blow others out the water if it was not difficult to find apps for it!!

Thanks Yoni. Two things:

  1. Do you have a way of updating the CnM Touchpad II Tablet to 2.2 (Froyo?)
      a.       If you have 2.2 for the CnM and the Android Market works on that, then problem solved!!
  2. Do you have a copy of the apk's that came with the CnM Tablet?
      a.       Having upgraded the Firmware - as per the mini CD in the box - I lost all the pre-loaded apk's (for gmail, etc).
      b.      It would be handy to get a copy of these, otherwise I will have to trawl the internet to find them.

Please see the thread I have set up for this issue - http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?k=125257

Yoni,One last thing.I used to have a Storage Options Scroll (which I'm pretty sure ran 2.1 Eclair).  Somehow , I got Android Market working on that. (Don't ask me how).  This would however only offer Apps that cost £0.00 - Free of Charge.  All Chargeable apps were not available or shown in Android Market.

Please note however, that I no longer have the Storage Options Scroll.  I swapped it for the CnM Touchpad II - which has put me "out of the frying pan, into the fire"!!!.

I am very sorry to be posting this, but could you please be honest.

You just get us to do all this stuff, downloading, unziipping, re-instaling, to keep us up all night and make us cry.

3.45 am and STILL I can't get android market to open on this cheapskate dishonest 7" tablet.

This is the third or fourth night of wresteling with this equipment, let alone all the time wasted during the day between jobs.

Why don't you just put on the box that it cannot get onto Android Market and download any applications that will make it a useful piece of equipment?

I am begining to think it is just sold to make users feel bad about the fact that there are all these things they could do if only they could afford a much more expensive piece of equipment.

Brokenhearted of London.

Fay Presto if you look at my earlier post it does say this device will not work with the marketplace! Yoni is kindly trying to work on the solution; for some devices there are work arounds.

Believe me this device would be a fantastic bit of BUDGET kit if a user could use the Marketplace. However after doing a tad of research myself, it would appear that the reason Marketplace will not work on this device is due to Google having a very large list of functions that devices must have before they can get use of the Marketplace.

There are other apps sites that have apps that will work with this device albeit not as many as a device compatible with Marketplace.

Its also not flash compliant, so some websites, heavily encased with flash will be non-functional.

As a basic starter device to practise and play with it does what it says on the box. If you want more meat you have to pay a little bit more.

Hope this helps, relax and enjoy your entry into the world of tablets, I know from experience it can be disappointing and costly but you learn as you go along.

I appologise; from the posts, it appeared that Yoni was more a part of the problem , than part of an attempted solution.

I appreciate the work he has done in trying to resolve a problem, and if there are sound physical limitations to the equipment, rather than sheer bloody-mindedness from google it is regrettable. I still think it should be made quite clear at point of purchase that this particular tablet will not give access to the promised land.

The solution worked fine on our build of units, as yours was not bought from us, there is a chance it is on a different software version which would account for some of the issues.

Just had a reply from CNM, there is a firmware update for these units now which includes Andriod Market.

"You can download the new firmware and firmware tool from our website www.cnmlifestyle.com and navigate to > touchpad II > Downloads > firmware upgrade.

The new firmware includes the market place pre loaded as well as all the apps. There is also a PDF Guide located in the folder to guide you through the process of upgrading.

Please find a short guide below:

The firmware needs to be downloaded onto a windows pc.

once downloaded you will need to extract the .zip file and locate the firmware upgrade tool: 'RKAndroidBatchUpgrade'

You will then need to power off your touchpad II, When turning it on you will need to hold down the 'esc' key on the touchpad II and connect it to the pc while holding down the 'esc' key while it installs on your pc. Once installed you can release the 'esc' key.

Once installed and connected to your pc you will need to select the required image from the download and click the 'upgrade' button, this will now upgrade the device.

Please make sure you do not disturb the device or unplug either the pc or touchpad as this may cause errors and cause the upgrade to fail. "

I hope I soon regret my outburst.

Hi Yoni,

Thanks for your efforts, however having attempted the Firmware upgrade 3 times now (the latter two times using the Firmware off of the CnM Website) I can categorically say that none of the above works.

Also, there is no Android Market included in the latest Firmware - as previously suggested.

One thing I have noticed is that the Firmware upgrade results in the outside world thinking that the OS is "version 1.02.11" (which is the Firmware version) and not Android version 2.1 - which is the true OS version.  As such, several applications which one tries to install from other sites which offers apps, will often say that "this apk is not compatible with Version 1.02 of Android" - most frustrating!!!

As before, do you know of a way to get Android v 2.2 running on this device?  If so, then how?  And does Android Market work on this unit on v2.2?

Many thanks,

Sgt Wilko

I could, of course, be wrong (it's been known :-)), but I suspect a firmware update in the near future might feature an upgrade of theOS. Of course, by then Google will have broken Market again, and we'll all still be having to resort to alternatives. Google do seem to be at pains to point out that the Vending app is NOT a free one. Not sure how they expect people to legally download apps, in that case, but I'm sure they're happy turning customers against them in the style of Microsoft / Apple.

Returned the Touchpad to maplins, who gave me a full credit against a Viewsonic Viewpad 7. The problem I have now is that with decent length nails the capacitive screen is a pain. Does anybody know of a way to keep the nails and still use the screen.

Metalic flake nail varnish?

Thanks for trying Yoni, keep up the good work.

I think this device is simply smashing! (once you do the firmware upgrade to get the Market).

I had a scroll from Maplins that tombstoned and they swapped it for this. This is fast responsive and a good touchscreen - a pleasure to use.

Some downsides are that the bundled apps include some duds including an old youtube that doesn't work - you can't remove them if not rooted and I can;t find out how to do that yet. Thus said I have the latest youtube runing on it and it's fine.

If you want to use a dongle buy it first then try the ones th- my zte dongle from tmobile almost works but not quite - maybe it will one day.

But cannot recommend this device more

For those of you having trouble with the Android Market I can confirm 100% that if you download and install the firmware update from the CnM website, the updated version of Android contains the market pre installed which works perfectly as well as Gmail,Google Maps and lots of other apps.
Please suggest any improvements or report problems / abuse to moderator@expansys.com
