It's now possible to flash the Sony erisson K750i into W800i

Pls see the following pictures from the following link

http://www.kingmobilephone.com/pages/sony-ericsson/k750i-to-w800i.php

Honestly, I will say K750i and W800 are very similar to each other.

There are only two things I notice the difference

(a) The Media Player icons changed to "W" (Walkman) and it has more choice like to sort out the play list by "Artist","playlist" or simply by Tracks

(b) In the startup menu, you can choose "Start Phone" or "Music Only". If you choose Music Only, it will be equal to FLIGHT MODE which the "Phone" fuction is off...only to play Music.

I think this function is useful when user is in Tube (Underground) where it's a waste of battery trying to get SIGNAL and sure sometimes, we just want to listen to music and not distrub by phone calls.

It will be still 20 for unlock, debrand and upgrade to W800i (R1K)

so far what the I have been told, no bug has been found...but as what I promised to customer, if they don't like the firmware, I can flash it back to original firmware FREE! (we are designed to be "backward" also..^v^)

My wife is now using it...I will get a review from her tonight..

Anyway, R1N firmware is released on K750i, however, a few bugs were reported especially, a drop out when the phone is connected by Bluetooth (so I was told not to flash the R1N to customers..) ..

@ kingmobilephone - this sounds great! I've been looking for a update service provider in the UK on the 'other' forums, but here you are! ^__^ I've emailed 'Ken' and I'm awaiting a reply.

Could you maybe share with us here, my Q's .. will I still be able to alter the Themes as I can just now with my K750i? If I slide back the lens cover, will it still activate the camera mode?

Cheers ..
ps I'm having a bit o trouble registering onto your site (can't click the 'register' button) .. any ideas?

Why people pay for unlock and updating??? After doing a bit of hunting, I was able to find a free download to unlock the k750i, and the update is free on the SE website... The same with my other phones, nokias... download the software and unlock.. free!!!

Ive also found many places that will be hosting the new w800 firmware when its available... for free download...

06/23/05 | Convert Sony Ericsson K750i to W800....Soon!!
Owners of the Sony Ericsson K750i will be able to convert their phone to the W800 as the hardware is the same. We will post when flashes become available which should be very shortly.

-- Kevin Haffenden

Found a few places promising it, just done a search on google... only a matter of time, when it will be available from one source or another!!

Guys

The american on http://www.bongowireless.com/blogs.php#100 offers the same service as I do on SE K750i and it's not FREEEEEE ... there is a price list on all unlock serivce!

the only difference is I have been doing the K750i to W800i converting and unlocking for a week already ..and this guy is still learning how to do it.

it's easier to get flash files, even I can put it here...the only thing is u need FLASHER which can work with the files as they are encryted.. (and the flasher can only worked with the dongle which is secured by E-gate card ...not the rubbish DIV !) / or u can try remote server (credit based software)

guys, I know u want some free stuff...but pls understand people like me in phone shop paid the unlock program, DONGLE, flash files...we are NOT doing our business on FREE stuffs ...I paid 185 on this sony ericsson program with all flashes files, but I can unlock & flash as many as I wish!! and no need to worry the internet connection broken down and kill the phone!

as far as I know, if u only have one phone, u can use remote server to debrand your K750 (not supporting converting to W800i at the moment)

for the remote server, there are some sucessful cases for it although I received a a couple of K750i with configuration error yestersday even the user have done the finialization process correctly! but again!! remote server is CREDIT based..it means u still have to pay for it and do it at your own risk..

btw, nice to sharing the idea here

@rabvtec

nice to e-mail u a few times so far... ^v^

Btw, there is one problem I disovered so far..

Since the phone is upgraded to W800i, u will need a W800i driver for connecting the phone to the computer as the K750i driver will not work anymore. (similar to upgrade from V800 to Z800)

However, at the moment, I still cannot find the driver for W800i on internet or through my programmer (anyway, since W800i is already available on ebay, I sure the driver will be available soon)

btw, I use card reader and memory card to transfer the data, so it doesn't affect me much at all

kingmobilephone - I like the fact your in London. I'll pop by soon for a bit of flashing... but first -->

You obviously know about the decrease in camera quality that has occured with later k750i firmware updates - does the w800i firmware sort this out? (i.e. is the video being encoded at a higher bit rate and is there less compression on the photos when they are saved to the memory card as jpegs?)

SE - let's bring out a super dooper camera phone and advertise it as being a replacement for your digital camera... then we'll wait a bit and release new firmware that lowers the video quality and digital stills... jesus christ you have to wonder.

@ kingmobilephone - .. and it's good talking to you again 'king' ^__^ I haven't pestered you lately because of the attacks on London - I hope you and all yours are safe and well.

Thanks for the heads up re the W800i driver - I'd suspected that might be the case, but like you, I use a card reader also ^_______^

bob donut has got a good point re video playback (in particular) - any input, 'king'?

Touch wood I am still in one piece ...but yup..I did spend 1.5hrs yestersday to search for a "OPEN" post office in central london for posting out the phones (as it seems my customers were worried their phone was bombed too)

Btw, sorry for getting lazy in these two days..I have just unlocked & debranded a D750i into K750i (I shall take a few pictures and vedio) and let u guys know the result

it will be a comparsion btw ""debrand D750i (K750i)"" compared with a ""W800i (upgraded from K750i)""

As promised

a very small review, but i stil haven't got much time to digest all information..

I have used three different K750i to take different photos & Vedio

(a) K750i with R1J firmware
(b) K750i with R1L firmware
(c) W800i with R1K firmware

http://www.kingmobilephone.com/file/Review/Review.rar
http://www.kingmobilephone.com/file/Review/Vedio.rar

Firstly, the photos are taken on the LCD screen (that why they are not really that good...

Result
(a) Picture quality

I will say K750i firmware R1J or R1L have the same quality on the picture quality...and when comparing with the W800i, u will see due to the software differences, it shows some difference in the pictures

See here
http://www.kingmobilephone.com/pages/mobile-review/k750i-vs-w800.php

(b) Vedio quality
http://www.kingmobilephone.com/file/Review/Vedio.rar

can't see much difference in K750i R1J , R1L or W800i

Sorry to raise everyones hopes about the unlocking software... just going from past experience with phones Ive had, and always being able to get a standalone piece of software to unlock it...

Am interested in the w800 firmware conversion, but wondered when it is applied to a k750i, can you still access the seus updates, and does it detect the handset as a w800, or is it likely to update to the k750i firmware??

WOOHOO! I've just received my K750i back from Ken at KingMobilePhone and .. 'I'm Lovin' It'

Firstly, @ The Mekon - once converted, your phone is basically a W800i ^_____^ You'll not be able to use SEUS until the W800i phone is on general release and then you'll be able to update as a W800i! (Why would you wanna update as a K750i anyway? heehee). Also, at the mo, your converted phone will not be recognised thru the USB cable, however, you can still access your memory card via a card reader and do all your dragging'n'dropping that way - once the phone is released, so will the drivers and then it's back to cable if you want!

Ken's info as posted earlier are basically what the differences that you'll find. IMO, MP3 playback is 'richer' all round, navigation is def quicker, I've got FlightMode for flying, hospitals, libraries and lectures .. heehee! And I've got the cool Walkman logo .. !

It is, of course, quite a worry sending your phone to someone that you don't know BUT after dealing with Ken, I have to say that he was ALWAYS professional, polite, helpful and informative! He is a very busy man but whenever I called/txt/email, he spent time talking and not trying to get rid of me off the phone!

I'll be recommending Ken to anyone who asks me .. ! Thanks Ken!
