My husband has a 8800 with Vodafone - on occasion, it comes up with the message "Insert Sim" even though the sim card is in the phone. The only way to get rid of this is to reboot the phone. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Thanks

Your husband doesn't seem to be the only one with this error, check here for other people with the same trouble and their solutions [seem to varying so can't point you to one].

Well, at the beginning of the week, it had gotten to the point where the insert sim message was happening everyday. THEN, the keypad stopped working as well :-(

The handset is insured with Vodafone so I rang them to see what my options were. They gave me 2 options - they could send out a replacement handset straight away but it would be a refurb job, not a brand new one OR I could take it to my nearest Vodafone store and they would try to fix it and give me a loan phone in the meantime. I told them I would think about it and get back to them

Yesterday, I took it to my local Nokia Service Centre and explained what the problem was. They literally replaced everthing inside the phone and now everything works the way it should. It took them all of 50 minutes to fix the problem so I'm a happy bunny :-)

I am now having a nightmare with this phone! I have had it replaced 5 times by O2 and this is the last straw. Dont get me wrong i love it! The shape the feel but enough is enough. I have had to have it replaced due to the speaker going pear shaped, the replacements for that being 'wonky' and stopping functioning, the replacement for that dying and before this one (which did seem to work for a while) died after my son transferred a image by bluetooth image to my phone killing it!

This time the phone decided to suddenly show up a "no sim card inserted" when there was one. i tried this sim in my other nokia 9300i and its ok and works and vice versa and the same message!

it gets better. i call O2 as i am a select customer and they have none in stock and wont be getting anymore!!!!!! then give me a siroco - nothing doing.... the only thing they can do is swap it for another phone like a D900 but then am i not losing out financially? (like sell a working 8800 purchase a D900 then pocket the difference as compensation for a lighter and more flimsey and less stylish mobile?)

any comments appreciated... i intend to kick off with O2 again and see what happens.

Each time you had a problem, did they really replace and not just repair?

I guess with the release of the Scirocco, stocks for the original 8800 will be wound down :(

Did you actually pay for the handset? I thought select customers got a new handset every 6 months on condition they give back their old handset?

I don''t believe O2 can''t get stock - the other service providers are still offering it. Keep hassling them until you get someone sympathetic and will get you what you ask
