TomTom 910 frozen

New(today) TomTom 910 has frozen. Set up OK initially but after about 15 minute the screen froze. Now each time I reset I can't get past the tomtom screen at the start before it freezes again. Tom Tom Home doesn't seem to recogise that it is there either. Anyone had a similar problem - or is it just a lemon?

I also purchased a TomTom 910 this week. I have owned a TomTom 300 for around 12 months so I am a regular user and understand how it works

In response to the issue I also experienced a freeze as a result of attaching the unit to the desk mount to a Macintosh Computer. The 910 restarted maybe 6 times and finally froze. On researching the web found that there is a small hole located under the the unit close to the connector that you can insert a needle or a paper clip to reset the 910. I still however experienced restarts. I then did a full reset by using the Menu on the Tom Tom ( restore to original) and the problem went away. I also noticed that I did not loose any voices that I had added such as John Cleese, however I did loose the Blackberry 8700g address book. I just updated the unit reloaded the address book and all is well.

For the record I called Australia TomTom support in Sydney 02 8875 1700 and found that they were most helpful. There seems there is a DOA replacement period of 14 days the unit will be replaced and if the 910 doesn’t work correctly after that it’s repaired or replaced under warranty. I was impressed with the support took only 2 calls to get through considering the number of negatives in several forums about support I have read it was breath of fresh air …..but hey this is Australia...... yes yes yes
So back to the freezing problem……. What happens is when you attach the TomTom 910 to the desk mount make sure it is fixed correctly ( READ THE MANUAL) MAKE SURE IT CLICKS INTO THE CONNECTOR I suggest doing this when 910 is OFF other wise like any other computer device etc it can have heart attack if you make an error thus going in to shut down restart mode. (This is my idea only it will work ok with unit on if you are careful) I also recommend you EJECT the TomTom 910 hard drive from your desk top on a PC or a Mac when you are finished with the home software as if not this may also cause problems. Finally remember you are dealing with a electronic device with the TomTom. The 20gb hard drive in the TomTom is no different to a removable HD or ipod or flash disk for back up that you have for any computer. Please treat it WITH CARE and I am sure all will be ok.

Finally using TomTom Home software on a Mac or PC allows you to back up the 910 so if for some reason you do a full reset and loose every thing like saved addresses and your hot places to go etc then you can at least restore these back to the unit. I suggest like Tom Tom says, backup once a month. Better be safe than sorry.
In conclusion, I have tested the 910 over past 48 hours and highly recommend it. Apart from being much faster than the TomTom 300 it allows the mobile to connect as hands free and YES it does work with the Blackberry 8700 G mobile Also the bigger screen is magic and I love having the street names read out as they are although this is not possible with John Cleese voice …( needs a computer voice) OH well that’s life as they say

Hello,

My TomTomGO 910 has finally gone into coma. Opened the cover to find the screen all white. (silly place for on/off switch).
Tried reset (6 times) with pin but cannot get past tomtom welcome picture. I even held down the power rest for 30sec, then 5 mins to no avail.
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

I have the same problem with TTG 300 - white screen and nothing else. I have tried support for the last three months and cannot get anyone to help me. I have tried to upgrade via TT home but I cannot find product number as I cannot get passed a white screen. Have tried reset many times but still does not fix. Any ideas?

I think I worked it out.
reset the unit using a pin then power the unit down.
Attach the unit to the usb port connected to your computer with the tomtom home program running.
Turn on the TTG900 while in the usb cradle and it starts working.

I also noticed that after ugrading the software via the web, it NOW shows not to put the unit in a bag. Where is is supposed to go if your car is left in a car park?

PLEASE HELP MY TOMTOM 910 WILL NOT TURN ON, NO GREEN LIGHT, NOTHING WORKS TRIED RESETTING WITH PIN, BUT STILL DOES NOT WORK - TRIED EVERYTHING INCLUDING CHARGING FOR HOURS IN CAR AND ON REGULAR CHARGER, WHAT''S WRONG WITH IT? IT LOOKS AS IF IT IS TOTALLY DEAD! HELP
